Weekly Report 14/10/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 14, 2011 4:02 pm

We have had a week of good conditions, typical after the holidays are over. Those fishos heading out caught a feed but they had to work hard for them. The current was moving north and the water temperature has been down a little but there were the odd snapper and pearl perch off the northern reefs while Fish Rock has been producing some quality kingfish. Out wider to Rocks In Line morwong, pearlies and some reasonable nannygai off the bottom. There were good stocks of live bait where the buoys were and around Jim’s and Col’s holes.
The breakwall has been fishing OK for bream and some fair flathead but again its all happening up river from Jersey to Smithtown with some great catches of whiting and jewfish with the odd one up to 5 kilo. I have had reports of bream coming in with ulcer spots. Fisheries advise not to eat them just release and 9 out of 10 times they heal over.
Visitors from Newcastle fished Smoky on the full moon after dark for a great bag of bream, whiting, jewfish and flathead using worms and mullet. There are still the odd salmon and tailor coming out of the surf.
The rockhoppers are getting some drummer, one or two tailor with good numbers of bream and tarwhine.
Over the next few weeks our Christmas stocks will be in so come in and have a look if you are in the area and don’t forget you can lay-by for Christmas.
