Weekly Report 28/10/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:10 pm

This week the wind got up again, which kept most fishos on shore, but for those that did venture out in between blows things were not easy. There is a lot of fish showing on the sounders but the current has dropped, so this made for tough fishing. Those that move about had the best results with snapper, pearlies and teraglin up north and kings at Fish Rock. There is a lot of bait out there so let’s hope we are in for another good year on the pelagics
Our river is the place to fish with some nice flathead caught off the flats towards Stuarts Point as well as around Clybucca. Plastics of 4” and 5” are going really well on these fish. Along the walls bream are in fair numbers, they’re not all legal but there are some nice ones amongst them; fish light for the bigger ones. There are also a few small cobia moving about the river. These fish are around 60cm and are a lot of fun to catch on bream gear. School jew have been on the bite this week from Smithtown to the mouth with whole worms the best bait and for the bigger fish whole mullet or squid is the go and bigger plastics are working well. Whiting are still in good numbers with reports of fish up to 38cm, fish the run-in tide with worms.
There have been some good catches of whiting and bream along Smoky Beach using worms and pipis while small jew and flathead are off the Hat Head side of the beach. Bob and Sandra Herring from Sydney fished Main Beach near the wreck for some great bream and a 4kg jewfish.
Over the next few weeks our Christmas stocks will be in so come in and have a look if you are in the area and don’t forget you can lay-buy for Xmas.
