Weekly Report 18/11/11

It wasn’t a bad week for the blue water fishers with some fair catches but you had to work for them. It has been a mixed bag down at Fish Rock with a few nice kings playing the game while the rats are in good numbers for a bit of fun on light gear. There were a few mahi mahi about on the wider grounds with local Matt Bennett weighing in one around 13kg. On the snapper grounds off Grassy and Scotts there was the odd red to 5kg with one or two pearlies to 2kg. The current has picked up past the 50m mark but the water colour is still ordinary.
Flathead made a return to the Macleay last week with some crackers caught. Through The Cut towards Stuarts Point some nice fish were caught on the flats as well as along the racks at Clybucca. The Jerseyville Bridge is loaded with small school jew around the pylons happily chewing 4” to 5” plastics. Whiting are still on the bite around Kinchela but there are a lot undersize ones to put up with. The breakwall has been quiet; one crew had a 10 kilo cobia to the boat but that was the only bite all session. Bream are in fair numbers along the walls, hopefully in a week or so it will all fire up.
It’s hit and miss on the beaches with Smoky giving up a few whiting and bream, as is Main Beach.
Rockhoppers are battling with the calmer seas with reports of a few bream off the Jail.
