Weekly Report 25/11/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 25, 2011 3:33 pm

We have had another week of cold water down to 19° and ordinary sea conditions are causing blue water fishos to battle to get a feed. There are fish off Grassy Head with a few snapper, trag and pearlies coming in but the numbers are not there at the moment. The current is good out wide if you can get out there where the warmer water is. Fish Rock has had some kingfish through the week, no hoodlums but some nice fish.
In the river Spencers Creek has been firing for schoolies near the paddle wheel with most fish taking larger plastics. There are a heap of small whiting in the same location. Further up river to Jerseyville, whiting and flathead are on the bite with smaller jew in the deeper holes. Drop-offs and weed beds are hiding some big flathead around Kemps Corner and Clybucca. Along the walls to the river mouth there have been a few bream and flathead but sometimes you just can’t get past the small shovelnose sharks. Surprisingly, there were blackfish caught along the wall, possibly due to the cold water.
There is not much joy for the rockhoppers apart from the odd bream and one or two drummer, it seems even the salmon have left. The local beaches are producing some nice fish. Smoky has some nice whiting and bream along the beach while Gap Beach has whiting as well.
Most of our Christmas stock is in now so come in for some great gift ideas
