Pack your raincoats you will need them over the next few weeks. That’s the downside; the upside is we had marlin on the bite last weekend. One black was hooked near the Dot in the dirty water and a blue was brought to the boat out wide towards the shelf. The water was around 24.5°. The grounds off Grassy have been producing the odd nice snapper up to 6 kilo with a few trag and jewfish about as well. Fish Rock has a few kingfish coming up with one or two snapper. Paul Shaw from Sydney fished the Jail Grounds for a 6 kilo red on the edge of the current line. It was a sign of things to come this summer with 3 tuna boats in close chasing bait on our bait grounds – not happy.
There are good reports from the beaches this week with Smoky Beach producing nice whiting, dart and bream, probably escaping the dirty river water. North Gap has some whiting and the odd flathead. Back Beach and Main Beach have whiting in the gutters.
It was almost shoulder to shoulder at the end of the wall chasing the jewfish in the dirty water. There has been plenty up to 5 kilo but the big ones have been elusive. Bream numbers are on the improve but there are a lot of throwbacks. Up river it’s muddy around Jerseyville but there are soapies under the bridge with a few flathead.
