29/09/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Sep 29, 2005 6:08 pm

There have been plenty of tourists around town for the holidays and reports indicate some good fish coming in.
The river is fishing well for flathead with better catches up towards Jerseyville past the bridge. Bream are about but it is difficult to get that one that you are happy to keep. Whiting are starting to show up in the river and in the Back Creek. Live worms are the go for these. There have been a few Jew around the breakwall on the run-out tide and heaps of salmon at the mouth. No reports of blackfish I would say there gone for the season. Taylor McKay from Belmont caught his first bass on a surface popper up-river towards Kempsey.
Beach fishing has been OK with Back Beach giving up some salmon and the odd flathead at the entrance to the creek. Smoky Beach has some bream and whiting and the odd big salmon lurking in the swell. Gap Beach has salmon and a few bream coming in.
The Rocks have been fairly quiet with some bream and reports of drummer in front of the lighthouse. Little Bay has some salmon and the only report of tailor this week. Small king fish were caught this week out of the gutter in front of the Jail.
There are still some snapper off Grassy to make a trip worthwhile. Wider out, there have been pearl perch, leatherjackets and bar cod around 50-60 Fathoms. Fish Rock has been fishing well for kingfish around 8kg with small snapper on the bottom. The boys fishing out off the Canyons sighted a marlin around the 120 kilo mark. Bring it on!.
