Weekly Report 13/1/12

It’s all going off here and it’s what we wait for every year. Spotted mackerel are in great numbers, even though they’re not big units. There has been the odd Spanish about with some big wahoo so make sure your rigs are in good shape. The FAD has been holding some nice mahi mahi. Fish Rock has seen a welcome return of yellowfin with the best last week a good 20kg. Some fair kingfish have been caught from the same location. Live slimies have been tough to find but luckily the spotties are taking floating pilchards. The water is 23° to 25°.
Good whiting can be found taking worms and nippers up river from Kinchela to Smithtown. Drifting around the Jerseyville has been productive for some nice flathead and the odd school jewfish. Closer to the mouth flathead have been on the bite around the Boatshed and Tavern with herring or small mullet the gun baits. Clybucca and Stuarts Point are fishing well for whiting and flathead.
Smoky Beach has whiting, bream and dart out of most gutters. Whiting have been on Back and Main beaches with a few keepers amongst them.
Rockhoppers are getting a few bream and tarwhine with the odd tuna and jewfish off the ledges around the Lighthouse and Hat Head.
