Weekly Report 17/2/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:50 am

Conditions are slowly coming back to normal offshore with the water now green and 25° to 26°. There were a couple of spotted mackerel off Grassy caught last week while the bottom bashers have been getting some nice pearlies, snapper and the odd venus tusk. Out wider the current is racing around the FAD with only smaller dolphin fish around it. Heading down south to Green Island, a few good bream and smaller kings are about. Fish Rock is producing nice kings on live bait while a few marlin have been hooked off the wide grounds on skirted lures. Hat Head has some Spanish off the front of the Hat with the odd cobia as well. Live bait is in better numbers, just in time for a pelagic return.
Jewfish are targets in the river with the water still brown. Good schoolies are at the mouth. Bream are in fair numbers but there are plenty of catfish coming in as well. A few boaties tried Clybucca for some nice flathead and whiting. Jerseyville is still very dirty around the bridge with reports of a few bream, small jewfish and flathead with the fresh bringing some eels into the mix. There have been some nice bass in the Belmore River towards the weir.
Rockhoppers are getting a few tailor and bream off the ledges while I have had reports of cobia and tuna off Hat Head and Hungry Head.
Smoky Beach has some nice whiting with a few bream and dart. There are also whiting off Little Bay, Back Beach and Main Beach around to the Jail.
