If you are tossing up whether to come up to the Rocks for the late summer run of fish, pack your bags because it’s all happening here now. The water is that bit cleaner and the roaring current over the last few weeks has slowed. Fishos are getting some nice Spanish and spotted mackerel off the Jail Grounds while Grassy Head has been producing nice spotties as well. The FAD is fishable but the mahi mahi are small. Fish Rock has some nice kings and the yellowfin have been in good numbers. A couple of kayakers have been towed around by cobia and a few Spanish in close to the Jail Grounds. Baitfish are available but not in big numbers on the bait grounds.
The river is fishing OK with some nice flathead through Clybucca while the whiting have been a little slow on the sand flats. Bream are in good numbers along the walls taking herring and worms. Jewfish are still in good numbers off the breakwall with plenty of metre fish about. Up around Jerseyville, schoolies are under the bridge taking plastics and fresh bait. Flathead have been active up toward Kinchela, jumping all over bigger plastics.
Rockhoppers are getting some nice tailor off the ledges while the more adventurous are hooking cobia, tuna and one or two Spanish reported off ledges at Hat Head and Hungry. Whiting and dart have been along Smoky Beach and Little Bay. Main and Back beaches have whiting in the gutters but they have been small.
