Weekly Report 9/3/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:23 am

The water outside has gone clear and blue and the fish are on cue. Up north the spotties are biting along with a few Spanish, they are keen on pillies and lures. There have also been some nice reef fish about as well, but don’t forget to berley, top and bottom fish both respond well to it. Fish Rock has had a few kings and yellowfin with the odd Spanish, Out the front of the Jail is similar to Grassy but this week some small black marlin turned up along with a few cobia and out wide, the blues are still in good numbers.
The river is fishing well with bream along the walls, racks and mangroves but fish light as the water is clear now. Nice flathead are still about, live poddies under bobby corks along the wall should get some good results. And if you are in a boat fish the drop-offs at low tide with soft plastics, they work a treat.
Rockhoppers are getting some nice tailor off the ledges, Chi Chi tells me he had a 4kg specimen dropped off at his door and I put one on the scales that went 5.5kg. The more adventurous are hooking cobia, tuna and one or two Spanish reported off the Hat Head and Hungry ledges. Whiting and dart have been along Smoky Beach and Little Bay in good numbers. Main and Back beaches have whiting in the gutters but they have been small.
