Weekly Report 15/3/12

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:55 pm

Apart from a few little showers, last week we had perfect conditions to head out to sea on calm and clean blue water. Marlin are not in big numbers but there have been some classic blues and blacks hooked inside of the shelf over the last couple of weeks. Most fishos are getting spotted mackerel on live slimies and pilchards off the Grassy grounds; some days they’re full on, other days a little more timid. There were some good snapper caught out of the same area with the best going 7kg. Spanish are in fair numbers and taking trolled shallow-diving lures and live bait. Cobia are being caught off the Jail, Black Rock and the odd one off the Grassy reefs. Fish Rock has been quiet with the odd wahoo grabbing a lure. Average water temp has been 24° to 25°.
The river is finally clearing up. It has been a little slow, though, with big bream not playing the game but heaps of smaller ones to keep you entertained. Up river to Jerseyville and further the water is still a bit dirty but nice flathead are coming in with some good school jew. The shallows at Clybucca and Stuarts Point are producing some nice whiting.
The beaches are fishing well with Smoky Beach loaded with dart as well as fair numbers of bream and whiting. Little Bay and Main Beach have whiting while Back Beach had a big school of salmon come through late last week.
Rockhoppers are getting kilo tailor and a few tuna early morning.
