Weekly Report 5/4/12

Conditions here have been fantastic for the outside fishos except for the bar – there has been a fair roll on it. Spotties are on the bite. They can be finicky but the numbers are there while afternoon sessions can be productive as well. Spanish are few and far between with some coming in up towards Nambucca. There have been a few cobia in front of the Jail down to Black Rock. Last week spotties were caught down as far as Hat Head with an 8kg unit at Fish Rock. The current out at the FAD is slow and the mahimahi have no size about them. A quick reminder; the jail ramp is closed over school holidays.
The breakwall is fishing well for some nice bream on the change of tide with night the best time to catch one of these or an odd school jew lurking in the dark. Flathead have been around Clybucca on the flats with a few whiting. Jerseyville has flathead and schoolies with a few whiting up to Kinchela.
The beaches have been productive with Smoky fishing well for whiting and dart while tailor are in good numbers along the beach to Hat Head. Try and get there at first light for better results. Gap Beach has bream and whiting with tailor off the north end. Main Beach has a few whiting taking worms and pipis.
Rockhoppers are hooking great tailor from the jail to the lighthouse. Further down, around Hat Head, there have been tuna, tailor and the odd cobia and jew off the ledges there.
