Weekly Report 27/4/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:30 pm

Earlier in the week the bar was horrible and kept boaties at home, in the river or land based. As the wind changed, out they went for some good results. Grassy Head is producing a few spotted mackerel and if you can get a live slimy in the green water it will go off in seconds. The odd trag and smaller snapper have been about in the same location. The FAD produced a few mahi mahi through the week. Out in front of the Jail the odd cobia has been caught while down to Fish Rock smaller kings are there along with a few yellowfin tuna. There are reports of a number of sharks eager to take your baits.
GTs to 4kg are in the river at the moment, hitting small poppers and small metals. There is still the odd whiting off the shallows taking worms and nippers. A few flathead are coming in with some nice bream along the walls. Conditions are perfect for the school jew in the dirty river water with some good catches reported.
Late last week Smoky Beach had a run of good whiting with dart and some fair tailor. Gap Beach is good for a few whiting and bream on a rising tide. Now the swell has dropped, drummer have been caught around the rocks with good runs of tailor and tarwhine if you get an early start. Good jew are about in front of the lighthouse and Hat Head.
