Weekly Report 3/5/12

Post by Tony Zann » Thu May 03, 2012 5:54 pm

Conditions last week were certainly an improvement from the week prior and with slimies making a return, most offshore fishos were catching fish. Off Grassy there were only a few spotted mackerel boated but the reef fish like trag, snapper and pearl perch were on the bite with the odd 10kg-plus jew in the boat. Out at the Dot, pearl perch and morwong are in good numbers with a few kings on the wider reefs. Fish Rock has a few kings along with a few tuna. In a few weeks Green Island should be loaded with some cracker bream.
Bream sizes have increased along the breakwall with some nice fish being caught on the incoming tide on light gear. Flathead have been on the bite with Charlie and Margaret Wright getting a good number of lizards around a kilo. School jew are in numbers from Jersey Bridge to the mouth of the river. There has been some good bass action up river, it’s hard to find the 50cm-plus units but the smaller ones are fun to catch.
Rockhoppers are getting drummer and tailor off the ledges with some blackfish starting to show up chomping on cabbage. Smoky Beach is again the most productive with tailor, dart, bream and some nice whiting coming in.
