Weekly Report 18/5/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 18, 2012 1:12 pm

Big seas out wide kept fishermen in close last week with some good results from Grassy to Scotts on snapper, trag and pearlies in 15-30m of water. Last weekend one crew caught a nice Spanish and four spotted mackerel out of the same location. Fish Rock is starting to get a little kingfish action, most are small side but a few thumpers among them. Big tailor are taking trolled lures from the lighthouse to the Jail.
There have been some big flathead caught from the river through the week with a nice drift and some fish bait like mullet, herring or pilchard doing the trick. Good bream were again hard to find along the walls while a sprinkling of blackfish have been caught with no size about them yet. whiting are still coming in from up river.
Smoky Beach is tailor city at the moment with good fish coming from behind Black Rock to Hat Head. Along the beach closer to the lighthouse bream, whiting and dart are in good numbers.
Rock hoppers are slaying the tailor off the ledges with some tuna action around Hat Head.
