Weekly Report 1/6/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:10 pm

Last week was a hint of things to come, with a winter chill and a few wet days to slow things down. Still the never-say-die fishos headed outside. Those going north were rewarded with nice catches of trag, pearl perch and snapper off Grassy and Scotts while Sea Scout Charters hooked three spotted mackerel around 8kg on the change of the tide. Further north there are reports of good numbers of longtail tuna. Green Island has some nice bream and tailor around it with Fish Rock again fairly quiet with only a few smaller kings coming to the surface.
Small bream are along most walls in the river at the moment with the best time to hook a keeper has been on the tide change. Nice schoolies are being caught around Rainbow Reach, the Cut Through and under the Jerseyville Bridge. For a flathead or two try the Clybucca flats, Spencers Creek and for the land based guys right in front of the tavern on the river – just watch the snags.
Some nice bream have been caught along Smoky Beach and with tailor still numbers worth getting out of bed early for. Bream are on Main Beach between the Boulders and the Wreck taking pipis and worms. Rockhoppers are getting tailor, bream, nice drummer and blackfish off the ledges.
