Weekly Report 8/6/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:45 pm

Wild and woolly is about all that can be said from last week once those southerly gales came through. There was some good news before the mid-week blow, some fishos fishing Grassy were bagging out on spotted mackerel and they were big fish. Snapper and trag were on the bite out of the same location as well. Fish Rock was loaded with rat kings last week with the odd 6 to 8 kilo fish amongst them. Guys chasing spanner crabs are getting a feed in front of the Lighthouse.
The river is fishing well for some nice flathead at the moment readily scoffing a live bait or a plastic. Local Cyril Davis hooked a 2.5 kilo lizard around the trawlers on a pumpkinseed plastic. The breakwall has been producing some fair bream and with nice fresh bait, light gear and a setting sun your chances will improve. Schoolies have been about with the Jerseyville bridge and along the breakwall your best chances. There are plenty of herring about at the moment for live bait.
Before the big seas Smoky Beach fished well for tailor all along the beach with some good catches of bream, a few whiting and jewfish. Tailor are along Gap Beach while there are a few bream about near the Boulders on Main Beach. Once the sea calms down the rockhoppers will be in their element.
