Weekly Report 23/8/12

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Aug 23, 2012 4:22 pm

It has been a little slow through the week with hit and miss ocean conditions. Picking your day to head out was tough. Better conditions were in close and fishos heading north were rewarded with some nice pearl perch and smaller snapper as well as good tuskies. Guys were heading up as far as Nambucca to get a feed. Snapper have been around Rocks In Line with a few pearlies and leatherjackets. Fish Rock has some kings but there’s no size about them. Trolling in front of the jail down to the Rock has been productive for tailor.
Our river looks fantastic at the moment, clear but cool water is holding good amounts of bait. Flathead are in the shallows and it’s great to see this early in the season. Already they are eager to jump all over plastics. Hot spots are around Jerseyville on the flats and through the Cut in the channels. Luderick fishermen are still having success along the walls on some quality fish. Bream and school jew are about on the tide changes.
The rock ledges off the lighthouse are producing drummer, tailor and jewfish while tailor are in good numbers off the Jail rocks. It has been a mixed bag along Smoky Beach with whiting, bream, tailor, flathead and salmon being reported.
