Weekly Report 30/8/12

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Aug 30, 2012 2:56 pm

There was a hint of summer through last week with warm days with a slight north-easterly in the afternoon – bring it on! Blue-water fishers came back with good catches of snapper and pearl perch from the reefs up north while out wider in 60-80m leatherjackets are still on the chew. Local spots like The Dot and Rocks in Line are producing some snapper and good morwong. One or two kings are around Fish Rock with a few reports of snapper off Black Rock.
If you are chasing flathead have a go on the drift up river around Kinchela with 4” plastics. Last week we saw another big school of blackfish come in the river so with some luck the season could go through September. Good bream are along the breakwall with some nice flathead coming in as well. Bass season opens on Saturday and we are all looking forward to that.
There are big drummer off the rocks around the lighthouse with good numbers of tailor and salmon to keep the rockhoppers interested. Smoky Beach is fishing well for bream, whiting and salmon while Gap Beach has the odd tailor. This time of year Back Beach has big salmon.
