Weekly Report 17/10/12

Blue water fisho’s were out in force in perfect conditions last week. The close grounds were not productive in about 18° water. Out wider off the jail kingfish were about with local Bill Borg weighing in a nice 12kg king caught in about 180m. Wider on the northern reefs new local Matt Cotter boated a nice 6.8kg snapper with the odd pearl perch in the bag. Some 3kg-plus tailor have been trolled up from in front of the jail. It’s good to see slimies and yakkas are in big numbers around the buoys in the bay.
Great flathead have been reported all through the river system caught on lures and bait with good numbers over 50cm. Whiting are still on the bite up-river, jumping all over nippers and worms. School jewfish are in the deeper water along the walls. There are a heap of small bream along the breakwall with the odd good one among them.
Smoky Beach has been a little slow through the week with the Hat Head end of a better option. Gap Beach has some salmon, tailor and flathead.
Crystal-clear water off the ledges has made it tough for the rockhoppers
