Weekly Report 6/1/13

South West Rocks is the fishing hot spot at the moment with a run of black marlin unlike we have seen for a number of years. Most are around 30kg and are in close hitting skirts and live baits from Grassy Head down to Hat Head. Spotted mackerel are in fair numbers off the northern reefs. They are a little timid but trolled baits seem to get their attention. There has been the odd Spanish about with one or two cobia. Snapper and pearlies are coming up from the wider grounds. The FAD is producing dolphin fish out of a strong current. Fish Rock and Green Island are loaded with rat kings. The bait grounds are loaded with slimies and yakkas.
The river has been fishing well for flathead with pilchards, whitebait or plastics doing the trick. There is a bit of dirty water coming down so the jewfish should be on the bite over the next week or so. Bream and Whiting are about, getting that bigger one is the problem.
Smoky and Gap beaches have whiting, bream and dart on live worms while Back Beach has the odd flathead and whiting.
