Weekly Report 25/1/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jan 25, 2013 3:18 pm

We had some fantastic conditions for the blue water guys last week with plenty of fishos heading for the ground off Grassy Head where the spotted mackerel have been taking pilchards or slimies. Most guys are bringing three or so home. Last week the Spanish were in better numbers out of the same location. In front of the Jail the black marlin are still about with the odd cobia on the 11 Fathom Reef. Yellowfin tuna were reported last week off the close grounds. Snapper have been coming in with a nice 6kg unit weighed in to win the Seabreeze Hotel comp last week.
The river has quietened down a little with heaps of small bream taking your bait. Fish early morning or late afternoon for the best results. Flathead and whiting have been more productive up river towards Jerseyville. Maybe a small fresh might put the fish on the bite again.
There have been good fish taken from the rocks with a mixed bag of jewfish, bream, drummer and tailor being caught. Smoky Beach has a few whiting, dart and bream along the beach with the odd tailor taking pilchards.
