Weekly Report 8/2/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 08, 2013 12:31 pm

What a difference a week makes. The chocolate water has gone, leaving us with a clearing ocean. From the Jail to Fish Rock there were reports of marlin. Cobia and wahoo have been spotted by the divers with some monster kings around the Rock. Hat Head down to Point Plomer produced marlin, sailfish and dolphin fish through the week. Off the northern reefs, Grassy is still green with no reports of mackerel so far. Live bait is slowly returning to the bait grounds.
Our beaches are reasonably clean with a fair numbers of whiting and dart on Smoky Beach with the odd small jewfish down towards Hat Head, just be alert driving on this beach after the heavy seas. Gap Beach has bream and some nice whiting on live worms.
The river is still holding dirty water but there are quality whiting around Smithtown with some good bass caught with diving lures. The Jerseyville Bridge has been producing good school jew around the pylons. Late last week local Wayne Gordon pulled a classic 24kg jewfish out of the dirty water on a Jewie150 Killalure.
