Weekly Report 15/3/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:19 pm

Unfortunately the sea came up last weekend but the southerly winds should bring in some good water. Off the northern reefs some fair snapper have been caught with some big trag with pearlies out a little wider. The Jail Grounds were productive with a number of marlin around 50 kilo, cobia in fair numbers and reports of one or two sailfish. Spanish and a few spotted mackerel have been hooked off Hat Head. There have been strong currents out wide, making it tough to fish out there.
We have had a great run on our beaches with Smoky holding a stack of whiting with most over 30cm, some nice bream and the odd schoolie. Whiting are at Little Bay and on Main Beach as well. It’s still worth a wander up to the breakwall on Back Beach for a jewfish or two.
Clean water is finally coming into the river, albeit slowly. There have been some nice flathead around Clybucca and Fishermens Reach while bream are in good numbers along the breakwalls and off the boat ramp. Back Creek has some great flathead taking plastics, let’s hope the big ones go back to breed.
