Weekly Report 21/3/13

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:03 pm

We are still struggling with the outside water conditions with the water off Grassy green and holding snapper and trag but only the odd spotted mackerel the week. It is getting better every day so let’s hope the spotties return before the season ends. Fair numbers of marlin are being caught off the Jail Grounds with one boat hooking four in one session through the week. There were some cracker kings around Fish Rock among the rats with one or two wahoo and some cobia up to 20 kilo. Yellowfin and longtail tuna are on the bite between Hat Head and the Jail with some nice fish coming in.
Shore based fishos are in their element with all the beaches fishing well for whiting and bream with Smoky the most productive on sandworms and pipis.
Rockhoppers are getting into some nice blackfish off Hat Head with reports of a mackerel or two off the ledges.
The river has been tough with the dirty water still hanging around. Bream are along the walls, not much size to them but they are nice and fat. The breakwall is worth a throw for a lazy jewfish or a good flathead.
