Weekly Report 12/4/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 12, 2013 12:56 pm

We had perfect conditions here late last week with some good catches outside and inshore. The only downside is slimies have been hard to get over the last few weeks. Spotties have been in fair numbers off Grassy with more success coming with trolling baits. The odd Spanish about with some over 30kg. Trag, snapper and jew are on the bottom on the northern reefs. Yellowfin were in good numbers last week around Fish Rock while cobia and wahoo have been coming in from the Rock to the Jail Grounds. Marlin action has slowed with just a few hooked through the week; a return of the slimies would be good.
As the river slowly clears better numbers of flathead are coming in. Spencers Creek is fishing particularly well as is the drift around the Cut Through. Whiting are around Clybucca hitting worms and nippers. The Breakwall has bream, flathead and the odd jewfish biting well on the tide changes. Jerseyville has been worth a throw for flathead and schoolies.
The beaches have been frustratingly slow with whiting and bream a little hard to find. There were a few tailor earlier in the week but the calm conditions are making it hard to get the fish excited.
