24/3/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 24, 2006 8:59 pm

We have had some good reports this week even though the conditions were not that great out there. Spotted mackerel were a little thicker over the last few days with some good quality fish like Dale Attwell’s 5kg fish being caught. Snapper and cobia are around Grassy and Scotts Head as well. Fish Rock produced a few kingfish this week. Cobia are still in good numbers with some big fish amongst them like a 60 pounder caught by Mark Griffen. Yellowfin are still on the bite and going crazy over the bibless mack bait lures, trolling at 6 to 8 knots. There have been reports of very small mahi mahi.
Tailor are off the rocks this week with 2kg-plus fish not uncommon. Bream and trevally are also on the bite.
Out of the surf there has been some improvement with whiting coming in off most beaches, along with the odd bream and tailor with Smoky Beach being the pick of the locations.
The river has only been fair at best with a heap of small bream everywhere taking your bait. There have been a few good flathead coming in on live bait, fish baits or bigger plastics. We have had reports of early blackfish taking green weed, but these fishos aren’t game to give me any locations at this early stage.
Check your safety gear and take care on the Bars
