Weekly Report 30/8/13

Fantastic conditions on the water with a strong current line; it doesn’t get much better coming out of winter. There were a few snapper coming in off Grassy in shallow water through the week up to 5kg. Out a little wider trag are in fair numbers with morwong and the odd pearl perch in the mix. Leatherjackets are still creating havoc along our coast. Green Island has tailor while Fish Rock has been quiet. The wide grounds have been tough to fish with a strong current running. 20° in the bay and 22° out wide holding a lot of bait, it all looks good.
If you are going to fish in the daylight hours head up river for flathead as far up as Smithtown, where there is still a little colour in the water. Rainbow Reach has a few schoolies or you can head to Clybucca for a few Bream around the racks. Blackfish are in small numbers out of their usual haunts with a few bream coming out of the clear water.
Bream and dart are in good numbers off Smoky Beach taking live worms and pipis. There has been the odd tailor early morning. Rockhoppers are battling in the calm clear water for bream, tailor and drummer.
