31/3/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 31, 2006 10:07 am

Fishos who ventured outside last week, taking advantage of a break in swells, were rewarded with some quality fish. There have been a few Spanish mackerel around; Aaron Muldoon caught a 13 kilo unit south of Fish Rock in amongst a big school of garfish. Yellowfin again are out there along with some very big cobia in good numbers. Spotties are still a little finicky with only a few coming in off Scotts and Grassy. There have been some snapper in locations like Fish Rock, Black Rock and Grassy Heads. leatherjackets were creating havoc around Fish Rock, claiming some tackle. There was a report of some blue marlin out wide on the canyons.
The recent big seas have giving the beaches a pounding. There has been a few whiting on most beaches along with some fair tailor. Hopefully the seas have created gutters to attract more fish.
There have been plenty of tailor off the rocks at the moment but watch the swell, it sneaks up on you.
The River is fishing well for flathead and bream. Local Yvonne Carter pulled a quality 2kg flattie out of the creek on mullet strips. Whiting have been slow with only a few reported.
