Weekly Report 07/01/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:26 am

It has been a mixed bag through the week on the ocean with the Spotties only patchy off Grassy and the odd Spanish caught in the close grounds. The highlight was a 35 kilo Cobia caught by James Derrig up north on a live bait. The FAD is producing some big Dolphin Fish with fish up to 14 kilo daily. Good Pearl Perch have been caught in the deeper water with some nice Snapper and Trag. Fish Rock is producing fair Kings with a few Yellow Fin around the Rock.

Flathead are on the bite in the river jumping all over plastic baits. Stuarts Point, Clybucca and Jerseyville are the hot spots at the moment. Whiting are in good numbers on the high tide; try a night fishing session on these fish and you will be surprised. Bream are throughout the river but this time of the year big units are hard to find. Bass are around Sherwood and Bellbrook whacking surface lures.

Big tides last week helped the Whiting to get back on the bite in the gutters off Smoky, with some nice Bream and good numbers of Dart to be found.

Take care on the bars

Paul Martin
