Weekly Report 15/01/14

It is what we wait for every year: the pelagics are here in numbers! They're not monsters though, with the average being about 40 kilos. The bigger units have been out at the Canyons with Blues around 200 and 120 kg through the week. Kayakers are having fun with the smaller Blacks in close.

Good numbers of Spotted Mackerel are off Grassy with some small Spanish out of the same area. Dolphinfish (mahi mahi) are around the FAD with the odd Bar Cod if you fish the bottom in about 100 meters. Live bait have been in good supply off the bait reefs.

There are still good Whiting up river towards Kinchela and Smithtown on the high tide. Bream are finicky in the clear water but you will get them along the walls and the oyster racks. There are some Flathead coming in on the drift.

Smoky Beach has a heap of Whiting and Dart coming in with the odd Flathead, while Gap Beach has been producing Bream and Whiting.

Take care on the bars
