Weekly Report 05/02/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Feb 05, 2014 9:40 am

We have had another cracker week here at South West Rocks on the water. Good numbers of big Spotted Mackerel with some nice Spanish in the mix off the reefs off Grassy and Scotts head. Trolling live or dead baits seems to be the most productive way to catch these fish.

Dolphinfish are still in good numbers but the big units are hard to find. On the bottom there were a few Snapper, Trag and the odd Pearl Perch. Fish Rock has been fishing well for Kingfish and Yellowfin along with Macs and Bonito in good numbers. Live bait are a hit and miss situation on the day.
The river has slowed down a little with the clean, clear water, hopefully a (little) bit of rain will colour it up. Jerseyville has been producing a few Flathead and Whiting with the odd Jewfish under the bridge. Around the oyster racks at Clybucca, Bream and Whiting have been coming in on surface walkers and poppers. The North side of the break wall has fished well through the week for some nice Jewfish amongst the Shovelies and Rays.
Whiting, Dart and Bream have been along Smoky Beach with some nice gutters forming on the beach.

Take care on the bars
Paul Martin
