7/4/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 07, 2006 10:21 am

There was a fair sea out there due to the southerlies late last week but those who took it on got fish. Spotties were caught in good numbers for the first time in weeks along with a few Spanish. It does appear that the mackerel are a bit bigger this year, consolation for the lack of numbers this season. Cobia were a little harder to find but some quality fish are coming in like Andrew Turvey’s 13kg model. Small mahi mahi are about but they are not taking a bait. Yellowfin are still in good numbers with some longtails around Hat Head and Grassy Head. Kingfish action started this week around Fish Rock with one visitor nailing them on yakkas.
Our river is full of just undersize bream at the moment with some keepers found at Jerseyville, off the ramps at the boat shed or drifting the north and south walls. Flathead are about but not in big numbers. Try to get some live bait for these critters. There is still the odd whiting up river.
Fishing the rocks has been slow this week. There have been quality tailor about with some bream and trevally coming in. The beaches have not been firing either apart from the odd whiting, bream and tailor.
During Easter make sure you look at the bars before you cross, it’s well worth the few extra minutes to get it right.
