Weekly Report 12/02/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Feb 12, 2014 10:49 am

Last week started slowly on the water but by midweek the current started to run downhill with some warmer water with it, and bingo: the Mackerel are biting their heads off. Some of the Spotties are big around the 7 kilo mark but on the Spanish are generally smaller. Most of the fish are in the closer grounds with the best results coming on the troll with bait and lures.

Mid week saw a few Cobia off Grassy and Scotts being boated. Out wider good Dolphinfish (Mahi Mahi) are around the FAD in numbers. Out on the wide grounds Blue Marlin are taking lures, with some fish around the 200 mark. Live bait are in good numbers before sunrise.

River fishing has been slow with the clear water making it tough. Reasonable Flathead have been coming in but not in any numbers. Whiting are about in the creeks around Clybucca and up towards Stuarts Point. Bream, Flathead and Mulloway have been caught along the Break Wall near the mouth.

Rock hoppers are getting Kingfish off the ledges with a few Tailor, while the beaches like Smoky are producing Whiting, Bream and some cracker Dart.

Take care on the bars
Paul Martin
