I love this time of the year and when the Mackerel are on the bite like they are now it doesn’t get any better. Grassy is firing with some great catches of Spotted Mackerel with some monsters around 11 kilo chomping on live baits. Good numbers of Spanish are amongst them off Grassy and in front of the Gaol. Cobia have been caught mainly down south around Black Rock but at this stage there's no size in them. We have a group of kayakers here hooking into small Black Marlin in front of the Gaol. Dollies were quitter around the FAD last week.
The river is fishing well for Flathead with a few big units being hooked and released. Better numbers of Whiting have appeared around Clybucca, Jerseyville and Smithtown. A 35 kilo Jew was landed drifting the Breakwall on live bait which was released well done. There are plenty of Bream along the walls biting on anything.
Off the rock ledges there are Tailor and smaller Kings in front of the Gaol and Lighthouse with the Hat Head ledges producing Tuna and the odd Spanish and Cobia. On the beaches, Smoky is your best bet with Whiting, Bream and Dart.

Take care on the bars
