Weekly Report 30/04/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:41 am

It does appear that our fantastic Mackerel season may have come to an end. They were few and far between last week with most Spotties caught with no wire just fluorocarbon. There were a few bust offs but fish were caught. On a more positive note bottom fish numbers are on the improve with Snapper, Pearl Perch and Trag caught in about 60 meters. Down from the Gaol to Fish Rock, Yellow Fin, Macs and Bonito have been about with the odd Wahoo and Cobia still showing up. There were Kings to be had but no size to report. Live bait is still a mission to find.

Smoky Beach has been full of Dart with Whiting and Bream in small numbers. Tailor have been along the beach and off the rock ledges early morning and late afternoon.

The North Wall has been producing nice Jewfish up to 18 kilo. Live bait like Yellowtail or Mullet has been the gun bait for these fish. Flathead, Bream and a sprinkling of early Blackfish are along the South wall. Further upriver Jerseyville is producing Whiting, Flathead and Small Jews under the bridge.

Good numbers of Bass are up in the higher reaches of the river, so take advantage before the closure.

Take care on the bars
Paul Martin
