21/4/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 21, 2006 8:45 am

It’s been a mixed bag of reports this week with some fishos bagging out on spotties and others not turning a reel. It seems around the 30 metre marks off Grassy Head have been the most successful location to pull these temperamental species out of the water. There have been some cobia coming in weighing up to 29 kilo. Yellowfin were a little hard to find, possibly at the end of their run. Fish Rock was quiet with the odd kingfish and snapper.
There are a few quality fish coming out of the river among the heaps of bream just under size. Tim Carman hooked a massive 102cm, 7.5kg flathead on an evil minnow Squidgy off the bank, proudly photographed and released. Danny Lloyd got his best jewfish on live pike, going a respectable 14 kilos cleaned, along the breakwall. There have been reports of bass around Smithtown late in the afternoon.
Once again the beaches were slow with a few whiting, plenty of dart and the odd bream. Smoky had a strong sideways sweep which makes it a little tough. Off the rocks there has been some tailor with Bob Nips hooking a good 5 pounder while bream have made a return to the ledges.
