Report 16/1/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:54 am

Good numbers of Spotted Mackerel are making their way down with Grassy Head firing late in the week. There has been the odd Spanish but the water has turned cooler and green in close and out wide the current is racing around 3 knots heading south with the FAD only producing small Dolphin fish. The Small Blacks that were in front of the Gaol have moved out while the water temps are down. Like everywhere we have some massive Sharks in front of the Gaol creating havoc on your catch. Small Kings are around Fish Rock along with a few Snapper. The usual bait grounds are not producing Slimies, hopefully when the good water arrives.
There are plenty of Whiting on the beaches with the odd Flathead and Bream coming in. Smoky and Gap beaches are your best bet. Rock hoppers are getting the odd big 3 kilo plus Tailor with Rat Kings amongst them.
There were more Cobia caught through the week in the river with one big unit around the Jerseyville Bridge. Good numbers of Flathead and Bream along the walls with Whiting found anywhere you want to throw a worm.

Take care on the Bars
