26/05/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 26, 2006 4:37 pm

It has been very patchy outside this week with a mixed bag of fish coming in but the currents have been erratic. There have been yellowfin and longtails out there with John Taylforth from Sydney hooking a nice 20kg longtail. Cobia are still lurking around in front of the Jail. Matt “Yowie” Walouris picked up a cracker 26kg unit in close late last week. Scotts Head is still working well for reasonable snapper and pearl perch. Kingfish are again around Fish Rock with most around 5-10kg. Leatherjackets are making an appearance but are not thick yet. Drifting the sand in front of the Jail will get you a feed of flathead.
The beaches are still not very productive apart from a 19kg jewfish caught off Smoky Beach by Kim Wilmen from Toormina on mullet. A few tailor were caught in line with Black Rock.
Not much to report from the rocks apart from some tailor, a few bream and trevally.
Flathead and bream are being caught in the river but unfortunately it is so clear that night has been more productive. Blackfish are there if you can find weed. Don’t forget the Sea Breeze Hotel fishing comp this weekend, it’s only $2 for adults and 50c for kids with the weigh in at 1pm on Sunday. Entry forms available at the shop or the pub.
