07/10/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 07, 2005 3:50 am

Finally there is a bit of action out wide, where the water is starting to warm up. Boats Dobbo and Rocks Off were out 35km last week and got among the yellowfin, with the best fish 70kg and 45kg, plus a few smaller ones. John Dobson tagged and released a 120kg striped marlin around 20km out. The snapper have quietened down a bit up north apart from a few but pearl perch are still making an appearance out a bit wider off Grassy Head. Kings have disappeared from Fish Rock but at last report the current was racing.
Fishing the beaches has been good with bream and whiting coming in off Smoky beach while Gap Beach has salmon and flathead on the northern end with the odd bream. We had one report of whiting at Little Bay Beach with one going 42cm. Back Beach is still producing salmon.
Bream are a little slow in the river but flathead are on the bite with Col Bradbrook landing a 4.935 kg monster last week. Whiting are starting to appear on the flats with nippers and worms getting them excited. Some nice bream have been caught off the breakwall towards the mouth of the river along with big salmon at the end of the wall.
The Seabreeze Fishing Club had their October outing last weekend with some good results. Standouts were Kim Hogno’s 7.2kg jew off the rocks, Charlie Roberts’ mixed bag of snapper, pearl perch and venus tusk fish while the junior awards went to Aidan Davey, Ben Jones, Sam Stanfield and Joshua Parisotto.
Watch the bars and check your safety gear.
