9/6/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 09, 2006 8:47 am

Finally some rain here, hopefully enough to jump-start the river fish action. Jewfish have been lurking along the breakwall with some good results this week. Bob Laws landed a nice 24kg jew and backed up with another 8kg fish. These fish seem to be on at first light with some water movement. Live bait (pike or mullet) is your best bet or try some 5” or 6” plastics. There has been a flathead or two around like Mika Saunders’ 2.73kg flattie while bream are about but not in big numbers.
Fishing the rocks has been a non-event for a few months while we all wait for the tailor run. Hat Head has started to fire up with good quantities of tailor coming in last week. Let’s hope they are heading this way. Bob Nips landed a nice 1.5kg drummer.
Not too much to report outside due to the strong winds last week. Most fishos stayed in on the close grounds with snapper and pearl perch in fair numbers off the Grassy Head reefs. The lighthouse grounds have been working well for flathead. Fish Rock has been loaded with mack tuna and bonito, while the kingfish have gone quiet again.
