16/6/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 16, 2006 9:13 am

From all reports this week, it does seem that things are finally hotting up outside. Fishos who could get out a little wider were rewarded with some very nice pearl perch, tusk fish and bar cod like Col Rowsell’s 14-kilo unit. Snapper are in a bit closer off Grassy and as far up as Nambucca. There are plenty of leatherjackets out there so make sure you have suitable rigs if they are under your boat. Mick, Ang, Renate and Cameron had some fun with the bonito that have invaded the bait buoys over the last week in the bay.
Rockhoppers are finally getting into some tailor off most ledges. It is still tough to get a bream off the rocks.
There have been some quality tailor off the beaches along with some big salmon
Blackfish have turned up in the river but not in big numbers yet. Rumour has it tonnes were netted on the beach and are selling for as little as .50c a kilo uncleaned – let’s hope that’s a mistake. Mirsad Bosnjak hooked a nice 17 kilo jewfish, one of a number of jewfish caught last week. There have been a few bream about; Jodie McTaggart caught a nice .825 kg bream on mullet fillet. Flathead are also on the bite if you can find some dirty water. We now have green weed in the shop if you want to give the blackfish a go.
