23/6/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 23, 2006 12:00 pm

We have had a week of miserable weather but there are always fishos who will take it on and it hasn’t been a waste of time.
Rockhoppers are getting into some nice tailor. There are reports of bream off the breakwall at the Jail with the odd drummer around the lighthouse.
It has been tough on the beaches with Smoky Beach all but fishless apart from the odd tailor and salmon. Gap Beach is not much better with the north end rocks your best bet.
Blackfish are being caught along the walls in the river, still not in big numbers but most fish are quality. There are plenty of bream about but watch the legal size limit because there are a lot of throwbacks. Throw some plastics around or if you are using bait, mullet or pilchard should pick up some good flathead.
Late last week wet conditions hampered outside fishos but the reports were good. Trag have made an appearance off Grassy with reasonable snapper coming in as well. Rat kings have inhabited Fish Rock with some bigger units amongst them. Flathead are available off the Lighthouse Grounds.
