Report 15/12/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 15, 2017 12:29 pm

North Easters hit us again just before the weekend making the water lumpy and cold with a very strong current in close. There were no sign of any Mackerel through the week but there were some reef fish like Snapper, Tuskies and Pearlies on the bottom off Grassy. The odd King fish have been caught from the Wreck off the Jail down to Fish Rock. Mac Tuna are in numbers down south as well. There were no reports from the wider grounds this week. Dollies are in small numbers around the FAD but we will see what this new current brings. Slimies are hard to find but there are heaps of yakkers off the bait grounds.

The river is fishing well for Flathead in various locations around the river. Whiting are in numbers further up river and a small flush would help them on their way down stream and on the beaches. The hot spot seems to be on the low tide flats just up from the Jerseyville Bridge. There are stacks of Bream along the Breakwalls, unfortunately not any size but keep an eye out for the majestic Mangrove Jack that are about this time of year.

The beaches have been slow with a few Whiting showing up. Back Beach has some Flathead coming in while Gap and Smoky Beach has a Bream and Dart and smaller Whiting in the gutters.
