28/7/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 28, 2006 2:36 pm

Our notorious bar is living up to its name and being very angry and unpredictable, which has slowed down the blue-water fishos.
There have been signs of promise on Smoky Beach with good bream coming in on live worms and pipis. The tailor have been hard to get out of the surf but salmon are there in good numbers. Good gutters have started to appear with the bigger seas.
Rockhoppers are finding it hard to fish with the big swells but early in the week they were getting nice bream and the odd salmon and tailor.
A little bit of dirty water in the river will improve the fishing especially for the jewfish. Finally there have been good bream coming in the river with some weighing a kilo-plus among the throwbacks. Blackfish are still on the bite but fishos are struggling to get good numbers. There are hundreds at Hat Head but it is shoulder to shoulder with fishermen.
Those getting out side early in the week got mahi mahi and kingfish around the FAD in good numbers which is a great sign for the coming weeks. Pearl perch were also around the same location and of course there are leatherjackets everywhere. Don’t forget the Seabreeze Hotel fishing comp this weekend with weigh-in by 1pm Sunday.
