Weekly Report 11/09/07

In the estuary, the excellent run of bream continues with fish well over a kilo being taken from most locations in the lower reaches. The fish seem to be hanging around in numbers quite late this year, with the good rainfall no doubt assisting. Flathead continue to improve with good numbers of fish beginning to show up from most locations. Best reports have come from Limeburners and Blackmans Point but Rawdon Island has also been worth a look with lures and bait. The breakwalls are still producing quality luderick albeit not in quite the same numbers as recent weeks. Some nice whiting are beginning to show up downstream of the Dennis Bridge on live worms and yabbies, although don’t be afraid to use small soldier crabs if you can get them.
On the beaches, the seas and winds have not been kind with limited access to all but the more protected locations. Those who have persisted report salmon in numbers taking just about anything at any time of day at any tide.
Off the rocks, drummer continue to be quite good with most anglers continuing to manage a fish or two each outing. Point Plomer continues to be the pick location but Miners has a few solid pigs. The occasional good-sized tailor continues to be encountered, with Point Perpendicular and Diamond Head providing nice fish. Bream numbers remain above average with evening sessions producing better results. The rough seas also saw some of the traditional luderick locations produce nice bronzies.
Outside, seas remain inconsistent, courtesy of the winds, but those who ventured out found reasonable numbers of snapper close in off Plomer but there are plenty of undersize specimens. Leatherjackets remain quite thick although the hungry hordes have moved on. Flathead remain excellent for those who don’t venture too wide
