7/12/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Wed Dec 07, 2005 3:43 pm

On the beaches, some nice bream have been offer but red weed remains an issue, particularly on North Beach. Along with the bream, whiting are on the improve while the odd school jew has been snared on worms after dark. Unfortunately the stingrays are now inundating the beaches for their annual feeding frenzy, so make sure you have plenty of worms on board if you are keen to chase a schoolie or two.
In the estuary, flathead remain excellent. The whiting are improving daily with the Maria, Limeburners and the back channel all well worth a go. Bream are a little quiet but lure tossers are beginning to see an increase in action, especially on the surface.
Offshore reports are improving with the currents finally bringing some warm water down. Early in the week, water of 24° was widespread with water closer to 26° a little wider. Mahi mahi catches are improving almost daily and there are increasing reports of marlin and cobia. For bottom bashers the news is good, with plenty of solid kingfish and snapper about, together with a few pearl perch and other mixed reef species. The blue water club had an excellent outing last weekend, scoring big kings, bar cod and even gemfish. As long as weather remains reasonable, some great offshore action is there to be had.
