Weekly Report 21/7/11

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Jul 21, 2011 12:39 pm

Off the rocks, solid reports on drummer continue to filter in, with Point Perpendicular, Diamond Head and a few ledges around Port giving up some nice pigs. Rockys, Shelly and Miners are all worth prospecting. Bream have picked up following the passing of the full moon, with Plomer and Crescent Head fishing well. Plomer and Hat Head have been giving up a few school mulloway with tailor slabs and beach worms achieving results. Plenty of blackfish around, with Shelley and Lighthouse productive. Tailor remain a little quiet but what has been around is generally of good quality.
On the beaches salmon are the dominant species but a few more palatable species can be found. School mulloway were active around the full moon, with North Beach, the southern end of Lighthouse and North Haven all producing fish. Beach worms were the pick of baits by far. Lighthouse has been yielding a few nice bream to around a kilo, with the best of the action early evenings before the moon got up. Tailor remain a little disappointing but those travelling south to Dunbogan and Diamond Head have been faring a little better.
In the estuary, blackfish remain consistent with the south wall the pick of locations. This could well improve further if the big seas bring another influx of bronzies into the system. Flathead numbers remain solid, with Blackmans Point and the flats around Pelican Island well worth a go. Whiting have been terrific in Lake Cathie despite the time of year. Best results have been after dark on the run in tide, with the quality first class. Bream numbers remain solid and with the moon now gone, should become considerably more active during the darker hours from now on.
Offshore results over the past week have been down, with the seas not at all friendly.
