Weekly Report 9/9/11

Salmon from 2kg to 4kg are in solid numbers on all beaches on almost any bait, For something a little more palatable, the shallower spits of Lighthouse and North beaches have some bream. A few school mulloway about, although the high tide has been paramount for success. Very few tailor but the few fish that are about are better than average.
Off the rocks, drummer numbers remain consistent if not spectacular. Best results have come from Diamond Head but Miners and Rocky have produced the odd good fish. Tailor numbers appear to be on the decline but the remaining fish are above average. Best results have been from around Plomer, where a few bag limit catches have been reported. A few nice blackfish and bream but no real consistency.
In the estuary, some terrific bream have been about with Alex Jutasi and Jim Gardner weighing fish of 1.48kg and 1.47kg, both from the breakwall. Good results also in Limeburners, around Hibbard and Rawdon Island. Blackfish have been a little quiet although the occasional very solid fish at Lake Cathie, where there are also whiting and flathead. The lake entrance looks good and a far cry from a couple of weeks ago.
Outside, our fantastic snapper season keeps on, with pretty well all reefs continuing to provide quality reds. Plastics and live bait are producing better but even bottom bouncers have been enjoying great results. Trag Rock continues to hold kingfish and a few mulloway and samson, while the reefs in around 50m off Plomer have been fishing very well for pearl perch.
