Reports 21/12/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Dec 21, 2016 10:16 am

In the estuary, flathead have been terrific with good numbers taking both lures and baits. Best results have been from around Blackmans Point and Rawdon Island. Whiting have been consistent in Limeburners and around Pelican Island, while those fishing the weed beds in Limeburners have also been scoring a few nice blackfish on yabbies. Bream have been reasonable with both break walls producing some nice fish over a kilo, with mullet strips working well. On the crustacean front, mud crabs have been excellent in the Hastings and Maria, while Lake Cathie has seen a few reasonable prawns over the past few nights.

On the beaches, North Beach has been fishing well around high tide for mulloway on both worms and squid heads. Lighthouse has also produced a few mulloway from the centre section, while the northern end has yielded a few solid bream and whiting.

Off the rocks, results still remain subdued as is usual for this time of year. Lighthouse however is worth a look for tailor at dawn, Shelley’s has produced a few bream and blackfish, while Plomer has been home to some reasonable school mulloway.

Offshore, conditions have again been only average over the past week however the forecast from now on looks promising, with some more settled weather and warmer water hopefully on the way. For those chasing a feed on the bottom, snapper, teraglin and kingfish have been reasonable, and the ever present flathead co-operative. On the pelagic front, the FAD has held good mahi mahi, while wider out marlin reports are encouraging.
